The Media Add New Screen allows you to upload Media (Images, video, files, etc.) for later use in your posts and pages. This screen allows you to both add single items as well as perform bulk uploads, if you wish to add more than one media item to your Media Library.

Uploading media from your local computer into the Media Library is quite simple. Two ‘uploader’ methods, Multi-File Uploader and Browser Uploader, are provided. The Multi-File Uploader is the primary method for adding media to the Media Library, but if doesn’t work then click the “Browser Uploader” link to use the Browser Uploader.

You will also see a message displayed at the bottom of your view that indicates maximum upload size for files, as set by your hosting provider.

WordPress makes it easy to add images to your WordPress site. You can upload them from within WordPress using the built-in file uploading utility in the Posts screen. You can also use an FTP Client program to upload multiple images at once.

When you’re using the inline file upload utility, your images will be placed in the /wp-content/uploads folder, unless you’ve specified another folder in the Miscellaneous admin panel.

WordPress can resize images and create thumbnails.

Images can be used in a variety of methods in your WordPress posts and Pages. They can be a major subject, or a referenced detail that enhances the information or story.

The first thing you should consider is the “look” of the images on your page. Not what the images are of, but the general look of how they flow and interact with the rest of the content on your page. Wrapping Text Around Images helps you to begin to understand how images interact with the text around them, changing the margins, padding and borders around the images within the content.

It will also help you understand how to create captions under your images. The next thing to consider is the size of the images. There are two ways of actually sizing an image. It is either the size that it is, or a thumbnail link which, when clicked, takes the user to a new page with an enlarged image of the graphic.

Captioned Images

In order to add an image to your page or post, you must first insert your cursor in the place in the text where you want the image to appear. By placing your cursor within your text, you can add images inline with your content. You can also place your cursor on a blank line if you want the image to appear by itself instead.

Tip: It’s a good idea to place your cursor on the left margin of your text, even if you want the image to appear on the right. That’s because there is a special setting called Alignment that allows you to control whether the image appears on the right or the left side of the text. It even controls how text flows around the image automatically.

Image Galleries

Images can be displayed in many ways in WordPress, from simple usages to complex galleries, to even mostly wordless PhotoBlogs.
